Public Services Librarian - Green River Library

The Green River Library is looking to fill a part-time Public Services Librarian position. Public Services Librarians perform a variety of general and specific library tasks to help patrons of all ages access and use library resources and services. They also assist with library programs and special projects.

 

Schedule 
25 hrs per week with at least one evening shift a week and one Saturday shift every other week.  

 

Pay 
$15.51 an hour

Essential Functions

  • Assists library patrons daily in accessing and using library resources and services.
  • Issues library cards as needed, checks books in and out daily, places hold requests for patrons daily, uses a cash register and handles money as needed, answers the telephone as needed, books meeting rooms and performs other basic clerical tasks to assist with the daily operations of the library as directed.

  • Shelves library materials and straightens the collection daily.

  • Uses and operates the computer daily in all functions related to public service.  

  • Supervises and provides basic assistance in the use of the library’s computers.

  • Attends meetings and is knowledgeable and aware of library policy and procedures. 

  • Opens, maintains and closes service areas of the library each day following established procedures.

  • Respects confidentiality in discussing patron, staff, volunteer and organizational matters; also maintains confidentiality of organization, project, fiscal and personnel related information in compliance with Wyoming state law.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Prepares and present story time as assigned; assists in the development, planning and implementation of reading programs and other programs and activities for youth, teens and adults as directed; conducts department and library tours when scheduled; collaborates with schools and other community organizations as directed to fulfill the mission of the library as it relates to youth as directed.
  • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of the collections making purchase suggestions to appropriate staff as needed.

  • Proctors tests and exams for patrons as needed.

  • Participates in interlibrary loan services and operations when assigned.

  • Prepares/process materials for public use as assigned.

  • As directed by the Assistant Library Director and/or Youth Services Manager, assists with library programs, maintains library collections including weeding and inventory control and completes other building tasks and projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of typing and data entry and clerical practices. 
  • Ability to utilize and search computerized bibliographic databases; enter data into a computerized database, spreadsheet, document or other systems; establish and maintain rapport with co-workers; exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgement and discretion; understand and provide verbal and written instruction in English; work hours mandated by your supervisor; provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages and abilities; learn standard library procedures, current information technology, Internet and database search techniques; learn and become familiar with the library’s print and non-print materials and collections.
  • Skilled in working with limited supervision, with aptitude for detailed work and proficiency in prioritizing tasks; accurate numerical and alphabetical filing skills; organizing tasks, managing time and solving problems.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, six months of relevant experience and six months of experience working with children or teens. 

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The essential functions of this job require the employee to work inside in an office environment. Frequent stooping, bending, walking over uneven spaces, lifting or carrying heavy (up to 30-40 pounds) items is required.
