Each February the library is proud to lend our support to the Make A Wish foundation fundraiser. The money raised makes it possible for a child with a fatal illness and their family to have one of their wishes come true and make a lasting memory to cherish.
The first fundraiser will take place at the library in Green River on Saturday, February 9 at 6 p.m. and is a Make A Wish Benefit Concert featuring three bands. Hardcore metal band, and hometown favorites, “A Human Medium”, will melt our faces along with the epic metal of “Days May Come” and debut artists, “Voices to Echo” both hailing from Rock Springs. All the bands go above and beyond to donate their time for this show. The library staff would like to extend a huge thank you to the bands for contributing their time, efforts, and talents for this worthy cause. The staff is asking for a minimum donation of $5.00 per person although if someone can spare more the staff will be happy to collect it for the cause.
On Tuesday, February 19 between 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Sweetwater County Library will offer Henna Body Art. Henna is a natural, temporary form of body art that originates in India and is known as Mehndi. Ellie Davis, Head of Youth Services, invites parents to call her at the library (872-3202 ext. 1300) if they have any questions about the ingredients or anything else regarding henna. Davis also extends her gratitude to all of the volunteers helping with this program. Just like our benefit concert, we ask for a minimum donation of $5.00 per person and if someone wants to donate more we are happy to accept it during the event.
This year our sponsor child is 16-year-old Jeremi of Laramie, Wyoming. His illness is a life threatening form of Lupus and he is very musical with aspirations of becoming a professional musician and played a couple of tunes with the GRHS band last November. He loves rock music and “Green Day” is his favorite group. His favorite book is “Hatchet” and his favorite food is Chinese and hobby is hunting/archery. His favorite movie is “Batman” and favorite sports team is the Broncos with Peyton Manning as his favorite player. Jeremi’s wish is to have a New York jazz experience and attend the Wynton Marsalis concert at Lincoln Center. His wish is currently scheduled to take place in April of this year.
The library’s Teen Group will have donation cans set up at the checkout desks at the Sweetwater County Library and at all of the teen’s events beginning February 9 for the duration of this year’s Make A Wish fundraiser which concludes on February 21.
