Wordsmiths and musicians are needed to perform at the November Poetry Jam Friday, November 16 at 7 p.m. at the Sweetwater County Library. Whether people prefer to sing or speak, the spirit of spoken word is definitely present at the Poetry Jams.
The Dittman Brothers will be the featured guests at the Poetry Jam. The local blues duo is comprised of Chuck and Paul Dittman. The duo has performed at many of the past Poetry Jams. “The Dittman Brothers, play amazing soulful blues,” according to Youth Librarian Ellie Davis. “They have the ability to blow the audience away and quite literally get people dancing in the aisle!” Aspiring singer song writer, Steve Davis will also be dazzling the audience with his unique blend of music. As well as, “Many Strings & Company” will be performing charming melodies.
Any poets and musicians are welcome to perform at the Poetry Jam. The Poetry Jams provide an opportunity for people to express their creativity in front of an audience - and audiences the chance to be entertained by short bursts of contemporary poetry and music.
The Poetry Jam includes three rounds of poetry, intermission with refreshments, and music with each musician sharing a maximum of three songs. The pieces performed at the Poetry Jams are not censored and are geared for audiences high school aged and up, according to organizers.
“This Poetry Jam is sure to please and it’s looking like we have a killer line-up of poets and musicians. We need an audience too so come enjoy the creativity of those in our community because you won’t be able to see it again until fall,” explained Davis.
The Poetry Jam is sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library System. For more information about Library System sponsored events, resources, and services, stop into your local library, or go to www.sweetwaterlibraries.com or www.facebook.com/sweetlibraries.
