Harry Potter Party Saturday, Oct. 13 @ 1pm to 3pm, Sweetwater County Library

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Brittany Wells

Harry Potter fans, the wait is over because the Harry Potter Costume Party is this weekend. Come celebrate the world of Harry Potter this Saturday, October 13 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sweetwater County Library in Green River.

The Sweetwater County Library will be transformed into Hogwarts School and every one of all ages is invited, but not required, to dress up as their favorite Harry Potter character. Volunteers will be dressed as popular characters like Harry, Hermione, Rita Skeeter, and Dumbledore just to name a few.
The focus of this year’s Harry Potter Costume Party will be a community food drive. Individuals are encouraged to bring in their favorite nonperishable items to donate. Items donated will go to the local food bank.

Those who bring items for the food drive will become a member of S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare). S.P.E.W. was an organization started in the fourth Harry Potter book by Hermione Granger in response to what she saw as gross injustice in the treatment of house-elves.

Among being a member of S.P.E.W, attendees of the Harry Potter Costume Party will receive a Marauder’s Map to navigate through the world of Harry Potter. Individuals will take their Marauder’s Map to various stations in the library and receive signatures of the characters. Once patrons accrue all signatures they will receive a prize.

The Sweetwater County Library staff is very excited to include new activities and crafts for this year’s costume party. Make sure to bring your brooms, cauldrons, friends and dark-rimmed glasses for an afternoon of wizarding wonder.

The Harry Potter Costume Party is part of the Sweetwater County Library System’s Programs. For more information about library services and events, visit your local library or go to or on Facebook at
